Safety is always a priority for car manufacturers and Volvo is no exception - it's proactive safety systems can assist drivers in having a safer trip.
Priding itself on safety, Volvo developed its City Safety collision avoidance technology - a world first standard feature aimed at providing safer urban driving.
The laser-based technology monitors traffic for speeds up to 30 kilometres an hour, sensing any impending collisions and automatically applying the brakes and switching off the throttle.
The City Safety feature also works in conjunction with Volvo's Pedestrian Detection technology, which can also detect anyone unexpectedly stepping out in front of the car when it is travelling at speeds up to 35 kilometres an hour.
A flashing red warning light signals the alert on the windscreen, along with an audible alarm and the full force of the car's braking system is applied if the driver fails to initiate them.
For those travelling at faster speeds - over 65 kilometres - Driver Alert Control utilises signals from a digital camera to not only monitor the road ahead but also your steering wheel movements.
If your driving behaviour becomes erratic or begins to show signs of drowsiness or distraction, an audible warning is sent and message displayed on the instrument panel.
